Flying Scotsman VR will take you on a journey back in time and around the world as you join the greatest moments in the locomotive’s past 100 years.
Guided by a cast of historic figures you will be part of key moments in the Flying Scotsman story including the British Empire Exhibition, 100mph record-breaking run and journeys around North America and Australia.
Celebrating engineering brilliance and exploring the science behind steam power, this is a multisensory experience using cutting-edge technology to bring Flying Scotsman’s stories to life right in front of you.

Safety terms and conditions
- Suitable for ages 8+
- Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times
- Minimum height 1.20 metres
- Each booth can accommodate four people. If you're in a group of five or more, you'll use multiple booths and may share it with people outside your group
- Please avoid this experience if you are prone to motion sickness/balance impairments, have a history of epilepsy or medical devices such as pacemakers
- Please note in this experience users will need to move around a space with a VR headset on. Real walls, floors and barriers will all be clear and present in the digital environment. All users must choose to participate voluntarily and at their own risk. If participants find the experience uncomfortable, Museum staff will be as accommodating as possible, but the Museum will not offer a refund or credit
