Christmas 2020

Say goodbye to 2020 and welcome in the new year with the National Railway Museum this season. Take time out to learn something new, admire engineering triumphs and—most importantly—have some festive fun!

What's on

Blow off the cobwebs with a ride on our Miniature Railway, guaranteed to bring cheer to children and grown-ups alike. Warm up with a hot drink and indulgent festive treat in our café, before continuing your adventure through time. You will meet Rocket—the locomotive that sparked the beginning of the railway age—Queen Victoria’s opulent ‘Palace on Wheels’ in our stunning collection of royal carriages and Mallard, the world’s fastest steam locomotive.

Our Pop-up Science shows will reveal a world of wonder on weekdays, exploring the awesome energy of Brussels sprouts and other Christmas magic. Bring the fun home with you when you pick up a free DIY light-up Christmas card pack on selected dates while stocks last.

Pop-up Science Shows: Weekdays, 10.30–14.30 in Great Hall
DIY Light-up Christmas card packs: 21, 22 and 23 December

Don't forget to have a look around our shop, where you'll find gifts aplenty—for loved ones, or perhaps a treat for yourself. Don't worry if you can't make it though, you can shop online, too. (Please note the on-site shop will only be open on selected days which we can't confirm at this time.)

We will offer you a very warm welcome as always, with some new measures in place to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable day out. Find out everything you need to know to plan your visit.
