Railway History and Heritage: A Workshop

Join us for a workshop showcasing the latest research in railway history and heritage, featuring scholars from the Institute of Railway Studies.

A long-standing parternship between the University of York and the National Railway Museum, the Institute of Railway Studies hosts UK and international scholars as well as doctoral students undertaking collaborative research with the museum.

This workshop will feature papers on a variety of subjects. They include railway workers’ literature; issues of identity; domesticity and the railway carriage interior; the authenticiy of built heritage; and the preservation of Portuguese railways. It will conclude with a round table discussion on whether there is a gap between academic railway history and the interpretation of railway heritage.

The event, which includes a refreshment break, is free.
