This exhibition explored the culinary world of the railways, from the early days of catering to the present day.

Today, as dozens of brands compete at stations and snack trolleys battle through crowded carriages, it can all seem a lifetime away from a genteel meal in a dining car. But railway catering began with entrepreneurs selling food at stations—so perhaps modern railway food contains more echoes of the past than you might expect.

From beautiful silverware to polystyrene ‘throw away’ packaging, this exhibition brought together a collection of diverse items to illustrate how railway dining has evolved.
